Highland Tree Service is a family-owned company founded in 2007 with over 20 years’ total experience with trees. At age 14, Ben Macauley began logging in western Oregon for his father, paying his own way through Marist High School, a private Catholic school in Eugene. He attended the University of Oregon, graduating in 1985 with a B.S. in Marketing and Management (Go Ducks!).
After graduation, Ben went into sales and production for many years. Eventually, Ben began a logging business with a couple of friends and then transitioned into urban forestry and founding Highland Tree Service. Big equipment has set Ben up to do tree removals in the city, and his background in the woods has taught him how to fall a tree precisely and safely where space allows. Ben also provides quality tree pruning: City of Eugene officials have examined his pruning and were impressed.
The clean-up is immaculate with the Highland crew, whatever tree work is provided. Homeowners see no evidence that they have been there, other than beautifully pruned trees or space where a tree was.
Safety is number one with Ben, with efficiency a close second priority. He pre-plans the details of each job precisely, making sure the crew members all know what they are to do, and the order in which they will work. The Highland Tree crew is service-oriented, which is the reason the company is named Highland Tree Service. They want to take care of the customers’ needs by providing quality tree care at a competitive price.
Ben says, “I treat people with empathy and respect, considering their needs. My many referrals and repeat customers speak well of my work. Building a strong, positive relationship with my customers is very important to me, where they feel comfortable referring me to their friends and family. They are trusting me with their property.”
Ben has two grown children, Jacob and Mariah, who have both worked with him for Highland Tree Service upon occasion. He enjoys spending time with his 4 grandchildren, serving at his church, and sharpening his saws -- you will not find a sharper chainsaw in all of Lane County.
Highland Tree Service is owned and operated by Ben Macauley.
Ben comes from a long line of tree experts. With a grandfather who was an Oregon lumberman in the 1930s and 40s, and a father who founded a successful lumber company in the 1960s and 70s.

Ben grew up with a love of trees and a keen knowledge of balancing customer needs with natural aesthetics.
After earning a B. S. in Business Administration (U of O '85) and working in the corporate world for many years, Ben decided to make a career change. He returned to the outdoors in tree service, including in town work and timber falling. .
